August Favorites!

Sunday, September 6, 2015

August was another no makeup month for me. The horrible Jersey weather means its either over 100 or thunder storming for most of the month so aside from lip balm and mascara there's not much that goes on the face. Instead it was a skin and hair care month because the intense heat can be just so so drying and harmful to your skin and locks. So there is a solid theme to this favorites, with one thing i simply had to gush about once again because i'm obsessed.

{Everything will be linked if i can find them still for sale}

The Favorites-
Toni&Guy Prep Leave In Conditioner- Now it is soooo hard to find something that can work well on frizzy hair. I have wild very light curls. I mean light in that my hair is on the thinner side which means even though my hair is also insanely long it doesn't weight it down like some other people struggle with. Along with my hair being so thin it breaks very easily and little can help with my ends feeling like straw, even with a fresh haircut. My hair is very dry so there isn't a lot of oil to work through and naturally help my hair out. I used to have to style my hair with about 8 different products and still if I was straightening my hair it would frizz in a couple of hours. But since I got this in a GlossyBox I've not looked back. Holy grail status.
Soap & Glory Heel Genius Amazing Foot Cream- I think its the month of the holy grail products. My skin like my hair has this thing where its really really dry unless i'm having a break out. And the only foot cream I've found that really helps keep a pedi looking amazing is this one. It smells good and clean and with a pair of socks over night you wake up feeling so soft and really luxurious. And its under $10.
Boots Botanics All Bright Cleansing Toner- Toner for dry skin is a rough thing. My skin lacks most oils, its a struggle and all my life I've been called gator girl because the scaliness is real. But I also have break outs. They started after I had my son. For the first 20 years of my life i had this perfect skin. But by 21 I was breaking out once a month. Toners help on really bad breakouts to control my spots of oil but some can be so harsh and strip my face. This is the first kind I've found that helps clear up my oil but doesn't leave my skin looking like I've had a chemical peal. Its moisturizing and leaves my skin feeling clean but not stripped. This brand has other kinds but i like the brightening version because of my hyper pigmentation.
Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer- Now this has been my summer moisturizer for two years running. If you aren't as dry as me i think it will make an epic all year round moisturizer because its really creamy and soft and it does the job so well. But my skin type need extra hydration come winter. This is an amazing product that does help in keeping my complexion clear which is a big struggle for me when I take into account the dark spots I get from every breakout. Its Aveeno so its gentle on the skin, I use Aveeno baby on my kids and this is just as good for me as those are for them.
Batiste Dry Shampoo, On The Go Size- Now this particular bottle is from a gift set I got from Ulta, and i dont know if they sell this scent on its own here in the states. BUT any scent of Batiste is a life saver. Now if you have dry hair you know you cant wash it everyday, and sometimes no matter how much you brush you cant drag you natural oils down, so you are left with a slick scalp and frizzy ends. This helps to maintain the slick between washes, and smells amazing. They even have ones for colored hair, though my personal favorite is the Wild one, in the leopard bottle. But these on the go ones are just super handy in the heat.
Gotham City Sirens iPhone Case- Now im a case junkie for my phones, and when I get a new phone I have a great gifting of my old cases I no longer need. For me I always have a new one on my phone and am buying more. But this beauty has been on my phone tons, I keep coming back to it and it deserves to be seen. Yes im a comic Junkie, yes I see all the Marvel movies in theater and yes I cant wait for DC to drop the Suicide Squad next year. So I do have more then this one comic case. I smell a new post coming.... But no, this one only ran me about $10 and its sturdy enough around my phone without being hard to take off and on. And also its just so damn cute! I love it.
The Sons of Thestian (The Harmatia Cycle Book 1)- Now there is no secret to anyone who has been on my blog this month that I've had a love affair with this book. I did a whole review on it Here. But it just needs mentioning again because of the experience I had with this story. I do think its a book to read in the fall because for me magic just feels more magical in the fall. So i'm thinking sometime after Halloween I will be having a re-read of this beauty, maybe a read along with some others because its just that amazing. If your in the market for an epic fantasy, that has amazing family and friend bonds, and a lot of mystery, give The Son of Thestian a go.

And that was my month of loves! Is there anything I simply need to try, read, use now that we are in a new month and I need new obsessions to add to my old? Any older dry ladies and gents have tips on how they have managed their hair and skin in all this sun?
