A Court of Mist and Fury is a sequel to last years release A Court of Thorns and Roses. As this is the second in a series it will spoil you for the first book. So if you haven't read that one go and please do because its awesome and then come back and see what this one is about. If you haven't heard about that beauty yet you can find more information about it here.
ACOMAF picks up three months after the first book leaves off. We see our favorites dealing with the aftermath of the trauma they lived with under the mountain. Tamlin struggles to protect where he failed before, Lucien ever supportive at his side. Feyre has severe PTSD triggered by feeling trapped because of her struggles under the mountain and when the book opens Rhysand hasn't yet come to collect in their bargain. There is alot of ignoring the bigger problems of their feelings and it doesnt play well for those we love. We meet a new resident of the Spring Court and get to see the Night court, and meet and slew of new characters that spoilers, you will fall in love with.
To keep this section as non spoilery as possibly we will run down all you can expect to find in this book. You will get serious character development! You will get world building that is amazing across multiple courts. You will get insight into some of the things we saw in book one and a TON of information about the plight that is coming in book three. The beginning is a much slower pace then the second half but its never boring because while the characters are dealing with things you are so invested in their emotional journey, you are with them every step of the way.
There is no sophomore slump here, the story and characters are engaging and the added length of the book between one and two really give you the chance to expand not only on the realm but the characters and their struggles and stories. And none of it feels like filler, it all lends to building up more to come. I give this book a solid 150 out of five stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 It as seriously that good!
Can we talk about my sweet baby Rhysand? Like I feel like he needs all the love. And the story of what he did, and how hard he worked to protect his people. And his court... everything is just so so amazing! Ok firstly he not only sets Ferye free but he never tries to cage her again. His family and friends welcome her with open arms. They help her to grow and yet let her help them to rock their plans for a better world. The love and friendships and just, I have no complaints.
The complaints I do have was singular, Tamlin going soooo overboard was not ok. Also I didnt buy he would really give up all he had to try and cage Feyre again. But more importantly, Lucien! I had so much faith in him, and he failed me so hard. Im hoping that with the end of this book he will give in and actually help Feyre, aka the High Lady of the Night Court, in fixing what Tamlin has broken.
Has anyone had a book hangover from ACOMAF? How have you been moving on from this amazing world??
